Winning Performances - Presentation Skills & Confidence in the Workplace 1 day course in Chorlton, Cheshire

Misc

A one day course Saturday 29th June. 10am - 4pm The day costs £85 (includes lunch and refreshments) Where: The Edge Theatre & Arts Centre, Manchester Road, Chorlton, Manchester, M21 9JG Every day, in some form or another, we are called upon to perform: to be articulate, to be confident, to communicate, to present, to impress, to shine, to convince, to entertain. This comes naturally for some, especially if they are given constant applause! The vast majority of us need to learn and develop the skills as an actor would ….. and no one expects an actor to achieve success without the proper training. This one-day workshop takes participants through an actor’s approach, from being cast in the role (asked to make a presentation, manage conflict, standing up in front of a group of students) to leaving the stage on the last night of the play (knowing that less is more, knowing when to get off and making a clean exit!). By looking at body language, the voice, status, movement and relaxation, participants are made aware of the importance of looking after the ‘tools of their trade’. Practical, simple exercises are given that participants can apply to any situation, whenever necessary. Many people struggle with personal confidence and situations at work can highlight this. The workshop focuses on helping to raise self confidence and presenting confidence even when you’re not feeling it. In any one day a multitude of unexpected issues can be thrown at us. Learning the actor’s skill of improvisation can help you to think on your feet and to develop skills in accepting and building rather than blocking. Content: * Finding, developing and maintaining the ‘character’ you are playing * Preparing the ‘script’ – how to learn, or not learn your lines * Getting to know the cast – working with your team * Walking the stage – owning your space * Standing in the ‘wings’ and waiting to ‘go on’ – channelling your nerves into positive energy * Making an entrance * The performance * Improvisation technique – coping with unexpected confrontations Making an exit The facilitator: Janine Waters is the Edge’s Artistic Director and has been working in Theatre for over 20 years. She first began delivering Arts Based Training in 1998 in the public and private sectors through the Office for Public Management. In more recent years she has delivered bespoke programmes for organisations including Organisational Development Services, The University of Manchester, PricewaterhouseCoopers, HSBC and The Royal Exchange.
